GREENVILLE – Phoenix Medical Transport is ready to continue serving the community and meeting the needs of community members. The company, located at 114 N. Broadway, is preparing to celebrate one year of operations, providing medical transportation services to those in Darke County and surrounding areas.

Phoenix Medical Transport started as a family-driven business, with a mission to connect patients to the care they need, and provide compassionate and quality care, while also ensuring their employees are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“My dad and I always talked about knowing that there was a way to run an operation that was successful while continuing to also care for our employees,” said Matt Silva, Chief of Operations and Co-Founder.

Matt also shared that he has been in the EMS career field for around eight years and has worked for many different medical transportation companies. Throughout his time, he gained different experiences and saw many things that affected EMS as a whole. As a husband and father, Matt understands the need for home and work-life balance, wanting to provide such balance to employees through honoring shift end times, meeting scheduling needs, and offering competitive pay to qualified personnel.

“During the planning phase of this business, the income level of our providers was an important factor we wanted to get right. When I immigrated from Brazil to the United States in 1999, I worked based on hourly wages,” explained Sergio Silva, President, and CEO Co-Founder. “I know what it is like to work for $6.00 an hour, $8.00 an hour, $12.00 an hour, $17.00 an hour and still I could never with one job alone support my family.”

Sergio explained that they wanted to do something different and something better. He continued to explain that upon further research and discussion, they made the decision to pay all of their providers above the national average.

Phoenix Medical Transport currently has ten employees but looks forward to continued growth as the company becomes more well-known within the community.

“Coming here was a breath of fresh air,” said one of the EMS providers. “The respect that they show goes a long way. It truly matters to them how we feel and that’s such a big thing.”

Sergio also shared that they are excited about growth within the community but plan on staying true to their values and the goals they set when they first started.

“We needed to build a business that meets the needs of our patients and community, while also valuing the providers we employ. We want to grow our business based on the concept of shared value, so we are successful while our employees are also thriving.”

Doug Puderbaugh, Operations Manager shared some insight on the business right now and its continuous growth. After a year of operation, Phoenix Medical Transport has received many high praises from patients, families, partnered facilities, and agencies for the service they have provided.

“We’re not going anywhere, not anytime soon,” said Puderbaugh. “We’re trying to do things the right way, in every aspect of everything that we do. Not only our patient care but the way we talk to our partner facilities, our partner agencies, and that’s one of the biggest things that we pride ourselves on and concentrate on.”
