Old Schoolhouse Restoration

DARKE COUNTY – GOOD NEWS! We have made sufficient progress on the restoration of the old one-room schoolhouse located on the corner of Hillgrove-Woodington and Warvel Roads that we would like to show you. We are planning an Open House on Sunday afternoon, September 6, from 1:00 to 4:00. We hope you can attend and see what has been done and what still needs to be done.

Thanks to the donated volunteer work of Tim Stebbins of Stebbins Excavating for installing the driveway to our parking area off Warvel Road and clearing the tree stumps around the building.

Also, thanks to Lew Crowell for “resurrecting the windows, and Brad Dill and Jason Laux for their floor work. They have made this Open House possible!

Yes, a lot still needs to be done. For example, a new roof, bell tower installation, and wall and ceiling work, but with grant money and local community support, it will be completed and the history of these early schools will be preserved. We want our elementary students to be able to see, understand, and experience how their grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. were educated!
