MIAMI COUNTY – The Miami County Sheriff’s Office conducted its 13th annual address verification sweep of all registered sex, violent, and arson offenders in the county. The operation involved 31 law enforcement officials from the Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Adult Parole Authority, Common Pleas Court Probation, Covington, Piqua, Tipp City, Troy, and West Milton Police Departments and the Miami County Communications Center.
Ohio law requires all registered sex, arson, and violent offenders to report their residential address to the sheriff of their county. In Miami County, deputies conduct quarterly random checks to ensure compliance.
This year to date, 10 complaints of possible non-compliance were investigated—4 addresses were verified, 2 resulted in charges and prison sentences, 2 were unfounded, and one was found to be deceased.
At the start of today’s sweep, 166 offenders were registered in Miami County. Law Enforcement verified 107 addresses and three offenders are under investigation for possible non-compliance. No other arrests or seizures were made during the sweep. Remaining addresses will be randomly re-checked before the year’s end. Any violations will be investigated and prosecuted.
