The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss insurance for county employees, County and Township roads construction contract, and the Darke County Airport. Commissioners Matt Aultman and Larry Holmes were present.

The board approved Resolution (R-205-2023). This resolution allows elected payroll deductions to enable all county employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more to receive insurance. This includes dental insurance, life insurance, deferred compensation, AFLAC, and any future elective deductions that may become available.

“These are voluntary benefits fully paid by employees,” Commissioner Holmes said. “There is no cost to the county.”

The board then approved Resolution (R-209-2023). This is a revenue and appropriation increase through a 2023 T-CAP Grant. This gives a revenue increase of $178,251 and appropriation increases for gas/diesel, telephone, contract services, and personal services for $178,251.

Next, the board approves a construction contract (C-6-2023). This is the County/Township Roads Cooperative Resurfacing contract with Walls Bros. The total agreement is $2,627,995.30 and works 11 township and three county roads.

The board then approved a quote to use Purvis Brothers Inc for self-serve point-of-sale systems at the Darke County Airport. This is a five-year commitment, and the DC Airport will reimburse Purvis Brothers Inc over the five years for unit depreciation.

“As we move the airport forward, we are getting new fuel systems, the tanks we purchased a while back, but this here is a system to pay for your gas,” Commissioner Aultman said.

The board then heard from citizens, and Meladi Brewer shared her intentions to run for Darke County Commissioner.

“On Sunday, I announced my intent to run as Darke County Commissioner in the 2024 election,” Meladi Brewer said. “So, for those of you who don’t know, I am formally telling you now that I intend on running for the position next year.”
