GREENVILLE – The Corner Shack held its Summer Kickoff and Fundraiser for Coach Jeff Martin at “Marty McCabe’s Place”, home of Connie and Marty McCabe.
The Tuesday night event included two dunking tanks, a pie-in-the-face challenge, DJ Shine, Laser Tag, Gaga Ball, volleyball, cornhole, basketball, kickball, a jumpy house, and Free Food.

“It’s a good turnout, and I’m glad the kids showed up for it and the parents are helping to raise money for Coach Martin,” said McCabe of McCabe’s Painting. “He’s a special guy, and we knew when he got sick, people were concerned, and a lot of prayers went out for Coach Martin.”
“In the beginning, I don’t think they were expecting him to make it, and then he got better, and then he certainly wasn’t going to go back to work,” McCabe continued. ”They were worried about what quality of life he would have, but he is doing well, all things considered. We’re glad to have him back; it means a lot to a lot of people.”

Coach Martin has made an amazing recovery and continues to improve each day. He enjoyed visiting with students, friends, and well-wishers at the event.
“Marty asked about it before he did it, and it’s kind of overwhelming, the support that I have had, not just from this but everything else,” said Coach Martin. “I went in the hospital in January, the cards and letters, visitors, and allowing me to speak at Senior Sendoff, that was very special because I’ve know those kids since fifth grade, having them in class either through the athletic department and the support from the whole community is just overwhelming, fantastic.”

“We hope what money we raise tonight will help with some of those medical bills that fall out of line from the insurance, so hopefully this will help him,” McCabe stated. “We give all the Glory to God for him being still alive because he was close, so prayers work, and I think he is a walking miracle. I am glad we could help him out a little bit tonight.”

Coach Martin concluded with: “Being here is great. Usually I sit on the dunk tank, but I’m not allowed to do that this year – not yet anyway.”
