May the 6th be with you; it is for our family

“May the 4th Be With You” is an unofficial international holiday celebrated annually on May 4th, acting as a pun-driven celebration of Star Wars fandom and its enduring cultural impact. Derived from “May the Force be with you,” the phrase has evolved from a 1979 political pun into a worldwide celebration involving movie marathons, costume parties, social media trends, and merchandising.

Our family didn’t get into that. Instead, our day was May 6.

I have written about it before but I will let new readers in on it this year.

Mom and Dad (Bea and Lee Moody) had four children and each one of us had something happen on May 6. We were born or got married on that day. Ron, the older child, who passed away last year, three days after his birthday. I was next in line and then my sister Bev (now Brumbaugh) followed the tradition the next two consecutive years.

Then, the fourth and youngest child, Brenda, got married on May 6, 1978, to Dan Norton.

Because of our ages, the celebrations aren’t like they used to be as the years pass by, but that’s totally okay because we were fortunate to have the great parents we were blessed with. Dad passed away July 20, 2016, just a couple of months shy of his 90th birthday and Mom passed away Sept. 25, 2019 three months shy of her 92nd birthday. And, they’re truly missed.

Those weren’t the only things that happened to our family on May 6. Dad was made a foreman at New Idea in Coldwater whatever that year was on that day; one of his horses had a colt on that day; and Mom’s sister, Mary, got married to her husband Joe Gasper on that date. On that, both of them are now deceased as well.

Yes, God must have had a plan to put me with this family with the May 6 connection, not to mention that all of our birthdays are divisible by three; we three older ones with the 6th; Brenda on the 24th (of November), Dad on the 21st (September) and Mom on the 27th (of December).

Enough about us for another year. Have a great week.
