Mary C. (Hoff) Grile Pipenger of Greenville (90)

Mary C. (Hoff) Grile Pipenger age 90, formerly of Greenville, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours on October 16, 2023, at her daughter’s residence in Botkins.  

Mary was born on March 20, 1933, in Darke County to the late Orville A. and Vera Marie (Eyer) Hoff.  Mary attended New Madison High School for 12 years and graduated with the Class of 1951.

Mary was a devoted homemaker and retired from Englewood Manor Nursing Home as a Certified Dietary Manager with 14 years of service.  She treasured her collections of goblets, pitchers, paperweights, hummingbirds, cardinals, and antique glassware.  Mary adored fishing and boating with her family while vacationing in Minnesota.  She was an accomplished quilter, earning awards for her beautiful work at the Great Darke County Fair.  Mary loved music and enjoyed traveling and singing with her sisters in their group, Mar Jo Lyn Trio & BJ.  She was also a member of The Country Strings group, for which she sang and played the penny whistle and harmonica.  

In addition to her parents, Mary is also preceded in death by her 1st husband of 41 years, Gene F. Grile; and her 2nd husband of 11 years, Jimmy A. Pipenger; and sisters, Barbara Moore, Marilyn Eley, and Joyce Harrison.  

Mary is survived by her sister, Martha Burns of Grand Haven, Michigan; daughters, Bambi (Keith)Maurer of Botkins and Michelle (Bill) Sewell of Centerville; sons, Barry Grile of Greenville, Todd Grile, Matt (Amy) Grile of West Milton, and Stacy (Kathy) Grile of Troy and numerous grand- and step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Terry Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.  The family will receive friends on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 12:00-2:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating memorial contributions to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.
