Marlene Lavonne Mitchell (80)

Marlene Lavonne Mitchell of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after a life well lived in the community she called home for more than 80 years.

Marlene was born on December 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Roy and Leona (Godown) Fourman.

Marlene retired from Evenflo after many years of dedicated service. She was a lifelong member of the Abbottsville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Over the years, she visited nearly every state park in Ohio and Indiana and always looked forward to the next trip.

A lifelong supporter of the Great Darke County Fair, Marlene never missed a fair. She especially enjoyed participating in the Domestic Arts Department, where her crocheting earned numerous ribbons and awards. She took pride in her handiwork and enjoyed sharing it with friends.

Marlene loved Greenville and was proud to spend her entire life there. She valued simple pleasures and time spent with the people she cared about most.

She is survived by her husband, of 53 years, Mike Mitchell; niece, Delene Weidner and husband Scott; nephew Tony Stoner and wife Mitzi; great-nephews, Joshua Weidner and Kyle Stoner; great-niece Sara Lacy and husband Dustin; great-niece Samantha Bouchard and husband Seth; great-great-nephews Max and Brooks Lacy; great-great-niece Sophia Bouchard; nephew Dennis Pitman, niece Cindy Pitman, nephew, Jeff Pitman and nephew Tim Pitman, as well as numerous cousins and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her sister, Delores Stoner and niece Robin Hallett.

Marlene will be greatly missed and will be remembered for her love of family, her talent for crocheting, her dedication to the Great Darke County Fair, and the many memories made while camping and fishing.

A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Abbottsville United Methodist Church, 4135 SR-49, Arcanum, Ohio 45304. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marlene’s memory to EverHeart Hospice, 1350 North Broadway, Greenville, Ohio or The Abbottsville United Methodist Church.
