VERSAILLES – The Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks struggle in the third quarter to keep up with the Marion Local Lady Flyers in dropping a 56-44 Prosperity Promotions MLK Classic Monday game.

We didn’t play like ourselves today,” said Mississinawa Valley coach Michael Paige. “Our girls looked tired; they looked out of sync; we just didn’t play well today.”

The Lady Flyers took the opening quarter 10-6, with the Lady Blackhawks taking period No. 2 by a 12-9 score, sending the teams to the halftime break with Marion Local holding a slim 19-18 lead.

“We couldn’t get it going today at all,” Paige said. “We had 18 points at halftime, which is nothing like us, so it was a different day for us. We were really off, but we’ll refocus, and we’ll get it back together, and we’ll be right back on track.”

The game outcome came down to the third period with the Lady Flyers outscoring Mississinawa Valley 23-10 to lead 42-28 with three periods in the book.

The Lady Hawks battled back to win the fourth period 16-14 in coming up short in the non-conference Monday MLK Classic contest.

“Taylee Woodbury a leader on our team both on and off the court,” said Coach Paige. “She leads by example, she’s a coach on the floor.”

“We had some girls give an effort tonight but the effort was out of control a little bit,” Paige added. “We weren’t crisp, we weren’t running our stuff in our right spots where we’re normally supposed to be. It was like everybody was out of sync today. We’ll bounce back, and we’ll be ok.”
