Make your mark on a new mural in Greenville

GREENVILLE – It’s time to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country on July 4, 1776. An overall quilt design mural will be created with the public’s submissions. Your 2-D monochromatic submission (flat, one-color only per sheet) should be created with a patriotic, historic or 250th theme.

An overall quilt design will be created based on the submissions, then scanned in digitally to be printed on vinyl and applied to the wall. The mural will feature the quilt square shown here, created by Ft. Greenville Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) members Virginia Kagey and Deb Nisonger. which will represent the state of Ohio in the National D.A.R. quilt; however, the “Quilt Mural” will remain in place long after the semiquincentennial year has ended.

You are invited to submit your quilt block design for possible inclusion in the mural design.

The rules for entry into the contest are as follows:

  • Any Darke County resident may submit up to 5 designs that must be on 12” x 12” tag board, mixed media paper, watercolor paper or the paper provided by the Greenville Mural Committee available at any of the county libraries, Welcome Center or that you may have at home. (Please do not use copy paper as it may crimp and cannot be used).
  • The color chosen for your design may be determined as follows: Those born in even years create a one-color design in red, odd years in blue, and those over age 50 in white/grey. ∙ A small signature may be included in the same color as the design, in the bottom right of the submission.
  • Please include an entry form, paper-clipped (no staples) with each quilt square design submitted. ∙ The special 12” x 12” paper and entry form are available at the following libraries for paper pick-up and drop-off: Arcanum, Bradford, Greenville, New Madison and Versailles or at the Welcome Center, 421 S. Broadway in Greenville.
  • Designs will be scanned in digitally, printed on vinyl and applied to a downtown Greenville wall. The overall design of the quilt mural may limit the use of all the submissions. The designs will be scanned and available this fall for pick-up at the Welcome Center.
