GREENVILLE – What has taken veteran Hall of Fame Greenville Lady Wave Softball (LWSB) coach, Jerrod Newland to accomplish in over 20 years of coaching varsity girls softball is a feat often achieved in 10 years or less by many coaches though out the country including some in as few as five years.

Finally after coaching 614 varsity games the inevitable happed on the road this past Saturday at DI perennial powerhouse Kings High School…Coach Newland picked up his 100th loss.

Each year across the country all coaches including Divisions I, II, III, and IV close out the year with a loss with the exception of those winning OHSAA State Championship trophies of which Coach Newland is one of the prestigious handful of coaches throughout the state to reach the pinnacle of success.

Take away the inevitable final season loss and Coach Newland would not be picking up the century mark for another four to five years. Pretty impressive accomplishment – 84% winning percentage.

The LWSB coach has won numerous district championships, regional championships, a final four, a state runner-up trophy and the 2007 Division II State Championship Title.

“I enjoy the journey with many families and friends,” said Coach Newland, “BUT the kids make it all worth it!!”

Coach Newland was enshrined into the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame with the class of 2018 where he joined LWSB assistant coach, Greg Newland (400 career wins), Jerrod’s father who is also a member of the prestigious Hall of Fame coaching at Springfield.
