Lowell Gene Wetzel age 82, of Arcanum passed away at 10:30 PM Friday, November 25, 2022, at Ayden Healthcare in Greenville.
Gene was born July 8, 1940, in Darke County to the late Jasper & Mary (Fisherback) Wetzel. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd, Fred, Ralph, Carl, Duane and Don Wetzel.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce (Caverlee) Wetzel whom he married June 21, 1969; daughter & son-in-law, Erica & David Fields of Arcanum; granddaughter, Jennifer Gibson of Greenville; brother & sister-in-law, Jim & Kay Wetzel of Arcanum; sister & brother-in-law, Marilyn & Mike Keller of Greenville; sister-in-law, Anna Wetzel of Arcanum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was a 1958 graduate of Arcanum High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. Gene in his earlier years delivered bread for White Bakery in Dayton and later retired from Chrysler in Dayton with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, gardening, flowers, reading and listening to old country music. Gene was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Chaplain Candy Null officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted by the Greenville Area Veteran’s Honor Guard.
