Lorene J. Stewart, age 96, of Greenville, passed away at 1:50 pm Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.
Lorene was born August 28, 1927, in Grayson County, Kentucky, to the late Otis & Daisy (Embry) Hayes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira W. Stewart, on July 2, 1982, whom she married September 4, 1943; sons, Roger E. Stewart, Walter J. Stewart, and Jeffry A. Stewart; grandson, Walter Jackson Stewart Jr.; brothers, Gene Hayes, Rodney Hayes, Roger Hayes and Otis Hayes; and sisters, Lucille Hickey, Juanita Reynolds, Temple Emerick, Helen Moore, Carol Parks and Rena May Hayes.
Lorene is survived by her son Otis A. Stewart of Versailles; grandchildren, Dion (Cassandra) Stewart, Debra Stewart, Dallas (Terri) Stewart, Antrum Stewart, Vincent Stewart, Shirley (Sammy) Stewart Demsey, Kim (Jeff) Stewart Oliphant, Christopher (Allison) Stewart and Monica Stewart Anderson; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Pauline Downing of Dayton, Geraldine Millington of Richmond, Indiana, Bonnie Lou Cook of Richmond, Indiana, and Kathy Williams of Wisconsin.
Lorene was a homemaker, raising four sons, and a great cook. She also was a nurse’s aide at many nursing homes and a home health care provider. Lorene attended Greenville First Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 9, 2024, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Steve Short officiating. Burial will follow in Old Teegarden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.
