Gilpin performs on Friday.

GREENVILLE—The Brick Room was all smiles on Friday afternoon, as over 50 residents from the Brethren Retirement Community listened to local Katie Gilpin sing.

Friday was the second time Gilpin, 25, performed in the area. She first performed last year at Tri-Village Schools with Darke County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DD).

A 2016 graduate of Tri-Village, Gilpin started singing at the age of five, and hasn’t stopped since.

She performed 11 songs on Friday, to the theme of “A Night at the Movies.” Songs performed were from movies such as The Muppets Movie, The Wizard of Oz, Frozen, Grease and more.

“Katie came to me looking for avenues to pursue her her talents,” Sue Huston, Darke DD Community Connections Coordinator said. “My job is to connect clients to resources in which they can showcase their talents, and Katie’s talent is obviously singing.”

Before her performance ended, residents were asking her to come back again.

“I’ve been excited for this since I found out about it,” Gilpin said. “I was so excited that I had my first gig!”

Her next “gig” is at A Night in Hollywood, March 4, at Radiant Lighthouse.
