Life’s Reflections: Let the Fun Begin At Darke County Fair

On my checklist for the Darke County Fair coverage I will be doing this year.include these items. Hope I'm not forgetting anything. (Linda Moody photo)

I’ve been enjoying seeing some of the goings-on at the Great Darke County Fair via social media thus far…In the meantime, I am getting my life re-arranged so that I am prepared for my duties out there starting today.

I opted this year and last year to skip the first weekend duties of fair coverage, but like last year, I will work today, tomorrow, and Thursday morning.

I always like to plan ahead because you never know what you are going to need while there. I am taking extra pens, the company camera, plus my own little picture-taker with extra batteries just in case something goes awry with the company one.

I think I am going to need tissues in case I sweat because I am hearing it may be very hot on the days I am planning on going. I will have my fair book, business cards, wipes in case of spills, a notebook and pens, and I will try not to forget to put on my knee brace and my ankle braces before I leave the house.

I am considered a sub-contractor with My County Link and hope to do the best I can while on the job out there. I agreed to take some of the assignments I have been covering for a while and am willing to add to my list if time allows.

I can’t wait to see the many friends I’ve made out there during this year’s visit.

Don’t be afraid to come up to me and introduce yourself or alert me to any story ideas. I am willing to help out.

Jamie, my son, will be with me, but he goes his separate ways when I’m on the job. He mostly likes to listen to the entertainment at the gazebo, which is fine with me.

Hopefully, everyone is having fun. I know I did, especially when I was much younger, even if I had to work there.

I am, however, going to take it easy on the food and drinks while there this year. For one thing, Jamie and I are dieting, and I’m afraid he will be tempted, but it is what it is.

Can’t wait, though, to meet and make new friends most of all.

Yes, it’s the Great Darke County Fair. Pray that all goes well. I am.
