First of all, I hope everyone had a great time at the Great Darke County Fair.
Secondly, I apologize immensely for not even attending but I didn’t want to take whatever sickness I had and go out and give it to someone else. Besides, my legs and feet are still not cooperating fully.
It is my hope to get a lot better and be able to return next year if all goes well.
I’ve seen photos and videos on Facebook all week and that was almost like attending the fair, without the aroma of some delicious food that was prepared for fair-goers, not to mention the many sounds that ring out all over the fairgrounds.
Plus, it always wonderful to see old friends and then make new friends while you’re there. I will just have to keep my memories of the fair locked up until next year.
Actually, I was all set to attend the fair. I bought some insoles for my shoes, had a notebook and ink pens inside my purse, had my credentials and had charged the battery on the camera a couple of days before.
Son Jamie was a little disappointed that we didn’t go as well, but he understood how I was feeling and stayed at home with me. The next afternoon, he told me that I looked much better, so I felt I was on the mend, despite not being 100 percent at my best. Of course, I may never reach that goal. Just kidding, I think.
Nonetheless, I love hearing fair stories.
My greatest story I like to tell about the fair is that my mother, Bea Riffell, and father, Lee Jr. Moody, met there in the early 1940s.
Isn’t that romantic?
In fact, if they both were living, they would celebrate their 78th anniversary on Sept. 5 this year and are probably still holding hands.
We four siblings were blessed with the best parents. Thank you Great Darke County Fair for your involvement in letting this happen. They continued to love the fair, and we always went there growing up. A wonderful adventure.

Jamie and I extend our condolences to the families and friends of Kenny Erwin, Daniel Coppess, Janice Lyme, Cale Wenning, Wyatt Reiss and Rodney Oda.
