It looks like people are having fun at the Great Darke County Fair by the photos I’ve seen so far.
I have not been there yet, opting instead to just attend one day this year for the sake of my bones and joints in my legs and feet.
I feel sorry for fair-goers who have to deal with the rain this year and hope it didn’t cause too much trouble in their fair plans.
I remember some of those days in the past, especially involving my sister’s family. They were at the north end of the fairgrounds when the horses were showing there. They camped there, and the rain came down so bad it was almost up to the steps to their camper. And my brother-in-law, Tom, spent a lot of time in the camper that year since he was fighting cancer. If I’m correct, it was his last fair.
The fair has always been a great festival and I’m sure it still is.
I will find out Tuesday when Jamie and I make my way there. I have a couple of ideas for stories in mind as I already have them figured out, and hopefully can find something else to write about while there.
I’ve covered many of the competitions over the years and am glad I had that opportunity when I was younger. It was always my favorite festival and still is even though I am opting to take it easier this year. I am so proud that Darke County has a popular fair, not to mention all of the other towns in Darke County with their respective celebrations, most of which I have also covered over the years. It makes me tired just thinking about it.
I will try and do my best when I make it there this year and hopefully, it will be uneventful as far as my health issues go. I’m sure it will be a great time. I love meeting old friends and making new ones and the Darke County Fair is the place to do just that.
If you see me there, don’t be afraid to stop and talk. If I don’t see you, know that I wish you the best in whatever activity you choose to compete in or be a spectator. You’re going to love it.
