GREENVILLE – The Ladybug Semiquincentennial Garden was completed at the Greenville City Park with a formal dedication ceremony by the American Legion Post 140 of Greenville on June 14. The National anthem was sung by Megan Shuff.
The United States Semiquincentennial will be the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Thirteen Colonies in 1776.
After a year of planning and working on the project, the spot chosen was between the two stockades and the brick wall at the Greenville City Park. Volunteers from the garden selected the area as there was no flag on that part of the park. Committee members were Joyce Clark, Marianna Ramos, Marilyn Petty, Cathy Detrick, Carol Hosbrook-Cole, and Charlene Thornhill.
Vision for this project could not have become a reality without the generous support of our community. We would like to thank and recognize Sons of the Legion, American Legion Post 140 of Greenville, The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs, Inc., Wildflower Garden Club for their monetary donations.
The Butterflies Junior Garden Club for providing the Heuchera ( 3 varieties of coral bells), Kevin Flory for soil, Rural King for peat moss, Sherwin-Williams for the paint for the bench and the Greenville City Street Department for removal of the sod and preparation of the garden bed. Jeff Cole for providing special assistance and Tod Clark for additional assistance.
