COVINGTON – The Greenville Lady Wave volleyball team traveled to Covington Tuesday night for a four-team pre-season scrimmage with several Lady Wave missing from action due to the injury bug and illness. Taking the court along with host Covington Lady BUCCS were the Lady Wave, Tri-Village Lady Patriots, and the Piqua Lady Indians.

“We’ve been busy,” said Greenville veteran coach Michelle Hardesty. “We’ve had a good summer,”

With several key players absent, Coach Hardesty used the opportunity to evaluate younger players in the program.

“I’m pleased that we’re getting to see what some of the other ones are capable of doing and getting them in the mix,” Hardesty noted.

“The girls are making it tough on us to see who we are going to see consistently on the court this season,” she continued. They are all very competitive with each other and the positions we are putting them in, so that is exciting for the program.”

Looking to the season and MVL play, Coach Hardesty is encouraged by the program’s progress since taking over the program.

“We don’t get to see a lot of the girls in the offseason, a few in club here and there,” Hardesty said. Knowing what was there last year and what’s left, I think we have a good opportunity to be a leader within the MVL this year as long as we stay healthy and the girls produce what we think they are capable of. Once they realize what they’re capable of as well, I think we’ll be right there at the top.”
