GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave hosted the Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains, the Brookeville Lady Blue Devils, and the Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks in a three-hour round robin volleyball scrimmage.
“Things are getting better for us,” said veteran Greenville coach Michelle Hardesty. “I’m pleased with where we are starting. I feel like everything is clicking as we progress towards opening week.
The Lady Wave is coming off a week of scrimmages at Covington and Eaton.
“We had a couple of tough scrimmages last week, but they learned from them,” Hardesty noted. “Tonight we looked pretty good, so I was pleased. We had a few little rough spots, but other than that, they are overcoming their errors. That is what we are working on this season; cutting our errors in half, and it is going to produce some points.”
Coach Hardesty and varsity assistant coach Jim Hardesty are putting together a starting lineup, a task that does not come easily for the 2025 varsity season.
“We have a great support staff, and there are a few players who are even in their playing so we are looking for consistency and who is going to win those spots,” said Michelle Hardesty. “We will do a lot of rotating because everybody right now seems to be contributing in some way, shape, or form. They are making it hard for us to decide who is going to be on the court consistently.”
Greenville closes out preseason scrimmage play with a scrimmage Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Russia and a Wednesday scrimmage at St. Marys starting at 5 p.m. The Lady Wave opens season play on the road against Tippecanoe, with the Lady Red Devils odds-on-favorite to win the 2025 MVL volleyball title.
“We open next week with Tipp, so that will be interesting,” Coach Hardesty stated. “We scrimmaged them last week. This may be the best team they have ever had. Their hitters are phenomenal, they’re tall.”
Greenville plays in the Greenville Federal Invitational to be played on Saturday, August 23, beginning at 9 a.m. The Lady Wave opens tournament play against the Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks.
“It was nice to see them tonight,” Hardesty said of the Lady Hawks. “We played well, they struggled a little bit, but that puts me on high alert because I know when they come into that tournament, they’re going to be ready to play us too.”
