FAIRBORN – The Greenville Lady Wave battled back from an early 7-0 second-inning deficit to earn a double-digit victory over the home-standing Fairborn Lady Skyhawks 19-7 in MVL softball action.
“Great teams find ways,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “We call it gritty – and today was.”

After a rocky start that included three errors, a passed ball, and a 2-run homer, the Lady Wave settled in to shut down the Lady Skyhawks over the final five innings while plating 19 runs to stay undefeated on the young 2024 season.
The Lady Skyhawks plated four first-inning runs and pushed three-second inning runs across while keeping Greenville off the board to lead 7-0 with two innings in the book.

Back-to-back doubles off the bats of Mahayla Cook and Addie Burke plated four Lady Wave third-inning runs and a Fairborn error plated two runs with Greenville trailing 7-6 after three.

The Lady Wave grabbed an 8-7 lead with a two-out Burke run-scoring single and a Skyhawks error in the top of the fourth.
“We battle back from down one then went up one,” Newland stated.
Greenville added two sixth-inning runs with a walk, a Kylar Arnett double, and a hard grounder off the bat of Zoey Burns played for an error scoring two Lady Wave runs and a 10-7 lead.

The Lady Wave sent 14 seventh-inning batters to the plate taking advantage of an opening walk, 4 singles, a Burns run-scoring double, a 2-run homer off the bat of Cook, and 2 Skyhawks errors to score 9 runs and lead 19-7 with Fairborn coming to the plate in the bottom of the inning to go down quietly 1-2-3.
“Awesome set up and Cook hit one close to 300 feet,” Coach Newland said. “Lots of great things and amazing comeback today. They win their half-yearly and it’s nice to get the sweep.”

Burns picked up the win going 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, 2 earned runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Liz Shaffer tossed 0.1 innings, 1 hit, 3 walks and 1 strikeout.
