Lady Wave tennis opens season with sweep over Brookville

GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave varsity tennis team opened the 2024 season with a commanding 5-0 sweep of the visiting Brookville Lady Blue Devils with just six days of practice going into the non-conference match.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how the girls played today, setting a strong tone for the rest of the season,” said Greenville coach Lori Keller. “We’re excited to build on this momentum and continue working on our skills throughout the season.”

Greenville sophomore Riley Capasso defeated Brookville senior Ava Brandeberry 6-4 and 6-1 to win at first singles. Lady Wave junior Maddie Lance won as second singles 6-1 and 6-3 to down Emily Etter. Greenville sophomore defeated the Lady Blue Devils’ Mackenzie Tate 6-1 and 6-3.

Lady Wave senior Haylee Shuttleworth and sophomore Meadow Murphy defeated Brookville seniors Morgan Miller and Kara Thomas at first doubles 6-2 and 6-1.

Completing the sweep to close out the night, Lady Wave senior Charlie Pope and sophomore Kirsten Horn downed Brookville sophomores Lorelai Wells and Mina Volk 6-0, 3-6, and 6-4.
