WEST CARROLLTON – The Lady Wave completed its 2023 MVL varsity softball season with a 17-1 win over the home standing West Carrollton Lady Pirates to outright win the Miami Valley League Championship trophy.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball and time to clinch the outright overall MVL title,” said veteran Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Hit it square and played 22 kids today.”

The Lady Wave put six runs on the first-inning board and added seven-runs in the top of the second putting the game out of reach on their way to the MVL title.

“Starting to get ready for the final push,” Newland stated, “and the kids are stoked for the opportunity that WE have.”

Senior shortstop Ashlyn Zimmer collected her 100th career hit to join seniors Skylar Fletcher and Alaina Baugh in the elite club (three seniors missed freshman year due to COVID).

“Three seniors with 100 hits in only three seasons,” Coach Newland said. “Solid stuff.”

Zoey Burns picked up the win for Greenville pitching 3.0 innings allowing one earned run, no walks while striking out five. Morgan Thompson tossed 2.0 innings, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Kylar Arnett (2-3), Addie Burke (2-2), Morgan Thompson (2-2) and Ashlyn Zimmer (2-3) each had two hits. Alaina Baughn (1-2), Lily Brubaker (1-2), Zoey Burns (1-2), Jaelyn Christman (1-2, Mahayla Cook (1-3), Kendal Cromwell (1-3), Skylar Fletcher (1-1), Kylie Hamm (1-1) and Marissa Hicks (1-2) each accounted for a hit.
