VANDALIA – The Lady Wave stayed perfect on the 2025 MVL season with an impressive 9-1 win over the home-standing Butler Lady Aviators.
“Great day for Lady Wave softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Great big team win today. Kids played hard and fast.”
Both teams went scoreless in the opening inning before the Lady Wave used a second-inning Lizzie Shaffer leadoff single to center, a Kendall Cromwell RBI single, and a Rielynn Davidson run-scoring single to left, giving the Lady Wave a 2-0 lead.
Greenville tacked on two third-inning runs, taking advantage of back-to-back Lady Aviators’ errors to open the inning and Shaffer knocking in a run to lead 4-0 after three.
The Lady Wave extended its lead to 6-0 in the fourth with a Davidson single to right, a Kylar Arnett single, a Zoey Burns RBI groundout, and an Ella Oswalt run-scoring single.
Greenville added single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to lead 9-0 before Butler plated an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
“Great road crowd and festive atmosphere for the game,” Newland said. “Some great plays today on defense, and Kendall (Cromwell) was terrific behind the plate today.”
With the win, the Lady Wave improve to 13-1 overall and 10-0 in MVL play.
“Big day at the plate,” Newland noted. “Ella went four and Lizzie three on the mound.”
Oswalt earned the win, throwing 4.0 innings of shutout ball on three hits, no walks, and one strikeout. Shaffer pitched three innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.
Greenville senior Kylar Arnett paced the Lady Wave, going 3-4 with three runs; Shaffer and Davidson went 2-4 with one RBI and a run; Cromwell 2-4, two RBIs; Oswalt 1-3, a walk, 2 RBIs; Leah Force 1-4, a triple, and two runs scored; Lily Brubaker 1-4, one RBI; Burns one RBI, one run.
