GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave scoreboard at Stebbins Field, home of the Greenville Girls Softball Association (GGSA) and the Lady Wave High School program, has received a much-needed facelift — marking another milestone for one of Ohio’s most successful programs.
“The scoreboard is amazing and awesome,” said veteran Lady Wave head coach Jerrod Newland. “Joe Wintrow and Eric Fellers have been working on it. Very cool and looks so sharp. It’s been 17 years since it went up, and the relaunch is great.”
Newland reflected on the continued growth of the softball complex and the momentum building around the program.
“Crazy — it’s been 14 years on the stadium also, and the plans we have could become a reality and a whole new ball game out at GGSA and LWSB Stadium. Dream big.”
Coach Newland is already excited for the 2026 campaign, now just 102 days away.
“Great schedule and grouping of kids for the future ahead,” he said.
The upcoming season will also feature all-new uniforms and warmups for the Lady Wave. The re-outfitting has drawn smiles — and a few laughs — from Coach Newland.
“Justine Shilt has been getting grumpy that we still use things she used 19 years ago,” Newland said with a chuckle, referencing the former Lady Wave First Team All-Ohio selection, Division I college standout, and current assistant coach.
Adding to the excitement, former All-Ohio pitcher Julie Shrouf Jones will be back on the field this winter and spring, helping throw batting practice. “Extremely excited for the next few years and very excited that Mrs. Jones is throwing some BP this winter and spring,” Newland added.
True to form, Newland has once again built one of the state’s toughest slates.
“The schedule is crazy with three state champions and six Final Four teams on it,” he said. “Like always — if you didn’t make regionals, don’t even ask.”
The 2026 senior class enters its final season with an impressive 82–13 record through three varsity years.
Coach Newland — still considered young by high-school coaching standards — will begin his 2026 campaign as Ohio’s ninth all-time winningest softball coach, carrying a career record of 588–110. The Lady Wave softball program itself ranks fourth in the state with 911 total victories.
I’m very excited for the next few years and opportunities for the program,” Newland said. “We have a great incoming freshman class with some top-tier talent again, like last year’s rookies.”
“The interest and enthusiasm here lately is something that is immeasurable and just breeds success for the middle school and youth kids,” he added. “GGSA and the Academy all have a great future ahead with the growth and excitement around the ‘Ville.”
