Lady Wave run rule Trotwood to open OHSAA tournament play

GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave used 11-0 run rule first round OHSAA DII tournament win over the Trotwood Madison Lady Rams to earn their 24 th victory of the season.

“Great day to get the tourney trail started,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Ten kids in tennis shoes and lots of kids playing.”

Coach Newland gave his starters the night off, and the junior varsity and role players took the field, keeping the game respectable as the Lady Wave advanced on the tournament trail.

“Older kids were great with the pushing their spots and had fun,” Newland said.

Greenville plated four first-inning runs with a two-run single off the bat of Marissa Hicks and took advantage of a Rams error to lead 4-0 after one inning of work with Coach Newland using leaving the base too soon.

The Lady Wave added three runs in the bottom of the second with Hicks driving a two-run single and a Jaelyn Christman RBI double to center for a 7-0 score with two innings in the book. Christman stroked a two RBI double in the bottom of the third giving the Lady Wave a 9-0 advantage.

Greenville used a Rylie Pfledderer triple, a Kara Blumenstock RBI single, a passed ball, and a leaving the base too soon for an 11-0 advantage after four complete that would stand for the final score.

“Lots of young kids hitting it well and solid,” Coach Newland stated. “Christman really hit well. Brubaker made a great play up the middle. Excited to see the future playing valuable reps.”

Zoey Burns picked up the win tossing 2.0 innings of shutout one hit ball allowing no runs, no walks while striking out five. Liz Shaffer went 3.0 innings of no-hit no run ball, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Christman went 3-3 including 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Hicks was 3-3, 4 RBI and a run, Lily Brubaker 2-3, a walk, 2 runs, Claire Royer 2-4, 2 runs, Pfledderer 1-1, 1 run, Davidson 1-2, 1 walk, 3 runs, Blumenstock 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 run, Carlee Yundt 1-3, 1 run, and Cloe Shuttleworth 2 RBI.

“Amazing that we got the Trotwood game started before 5 p.m.” Newland noted. “Early bus and great effort and communication with them by Coach Shaffer.”
