GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave defeated the visiting Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets 3-1 in MVL action, giving the Greenville girls a 10-1 record against Sidney since 2019.

Greenville battled back from an 0-1 deficit after dropping the opening set 18-25 to the visitors to close out the night on a 3-0 run for the win.

“This was a big win for the Lady Wave,” said Greenville coach Michelle Hardesty. “Credit to our players. I think they really grew up today. It’s the best I have seen them play. We started a little slow trying to find what works and gave up the first set.”

The Lady Wave won the second set 25-14 score to even the match at a game apiece.

Greenville kept up solid play, dismantling the visitors 25-12 in the third set of the night and putting the game away with a 25-18 fourth-set win.

“How they responded to the adversity tonight is a big win in itself,” Coach Hardesty said. “After losing the first set, they stayed poised and shut the Lady Yellowjackets down in each of the next three sets for the win. We knew they should be a good team this year and a lot of fun to watch. After a rough start due to injuries and illness, it’s good to see them back. ”

Lady Wave senior Brooke Schmidt paced Greenville with 18 kills, juniors Kyndall Burke and Kindyl Peltz each accounted for seven kills. Peltz led the team in assists and aces with five of the Lady Wave’s 14 aces.

The Greenville defense was solid the entire night, and senior Libero Shyanne Gibboney led the team in digs. She also contributed three aces and was spot on in serve receive.

“The Stagecrew was great tonight,” Hardesty noted. “We appreciate the students that come out and support the volleyball team. Having them in the gym and being loud and supportive also contributes greatly to our victories. ”
