“They’ve come a long way,” said Greenville JV coach, Krystal Burke. “I’m really proud of the effort and them pulling together. It’s hard when you have a new mix of kids coming in and they’ve really stepped up to support the varsity. The road teams kind of hate to see our JV coming because we are awfully loud in the stands.”

Greenville took the opening set 25-21 and made it a perfect night for the JV team with a second set 25-20 win.

“They’re having fun, they’re getting better and that is all I can ask,” Burke stated. “We’re looking forward to going and supporting the varsity team in the upcoming tournament.”

The 2023-2024 Lady Wave varsity team included 4 freshmen and 4 sophomores making the winning JV season even more impressive.

“I would try to work them in to give them a little time to warm up but I knew they were potentially needed for the varsity matches so that’s when we had to call on the others to set up their game at different points in the season and at different points in each match,” shared Coach Burke. “Even set to set we had a lot of different kids step up when we needed them at different times. They did a great job working together.”

Coach Burke added from the beginning of the season to the final match “it’s night and day – I’m so proud of them.”

The 2023-2024 JV squad included: freshmen, Kara Blumenstock, Lizzie Shaffer, Megan Loudy, Aubrey Baumgardner, Avery Shipp, Hailey Gilespie and Aly Hamilton; sophomores, Lily Brubaker, Kya Howard, Kendall Cromwell and Kaylynn Hiatt; Junior, Lacie Shepherd.
