“When you can’t score the basketball it’s going to be a hard time winning,” said Greenville coach, Rachael Kerns. “Defensively they didn’t give up very many points. Not a lack of effort, we did a lot of really good things.”

The Lady Wave jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening 90 seconds of play only to have the visitors take the rest of the contest by a 33-15 score.

Greenville held a 7-6 lead after one quarter of play with Troy battling back with a 12-6 second-quarter score to lead 18-13 with the teams headed to the halftime break.

Period No. 3 was not kind to either team at their respective offensive ends of the court as the Lady Trojans would hit a basket and go 2-4 at the line while Greenville knocked down a bucket to go 0-4 at the charity stripe for a 22-15 Troy lead with one period to play.

Greenville was forced to send Troy to the fourth-quarter free throw line in an attempt to get back in the game but came up short with the Lady Trojans taking advantage of 9-12 fourth-quarter free throw shooting while Greenville was 2-4 at the line.

“We had to foul a little but when you’re 7-of 51 from the floor you’re not going to win many basketball games,” Kerns stated. “When you get 51 shots off a lot of times things are going to go in your favor but we didn’t come out and compete for four quarters tonight.”

Troy was 12-22 at the charity stripe on the night while Greenville was 7-19 at the line.
