GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave dropped a 56-32 matchup to the visiting Sidney Lady Yellow Jackets to open the MVL 2024-2025 season.
“Sidney is solid,” said veteran Greenville coach Rachael Kerns. “They have lots of girls who played basketball outside of basketball season, and they just know what to do.”

The Lady Wave struggled with the aggressive full-court Lady Jackets press with the visitors jumping to an 18-5 first-quarter lead.
“We can’t simulate the pace at which Sidney is going to go,” Kerns noted. “It takes us a little bit to adjust to that, but we have to start adjusting a little bit quicker.”

Greenville adjustments on both ends of the second quarter court had the Lady Wave scoring eight points while Sidney added 14 points, sending the teams to the break with the Lady Jackets up 32-14.
Sidney continued its full-court pressure in the third, outscoring Greenville 11-4 to lead 45-17 with one period to play.
“They played hard we just have to be a little better in all aspects,” said Coach Kerns. “We have to be better at feeding the post when they’re open; we have to do better hanging onto a good post up. We just have to figure out what it’s going to be, who it will be.”

The Lady Wave put it together in the fourth, taking the period 15-13 with the Sidney starters still in the lineup.
“The second half, they continued to press us,” Kerns noted. “Avery (Baumann) did a good job with not fouling. She was comfortable with the ball, she did a great job breaking the press, she did a great job bringing it up, and she did a great job getting us in our offense, so I give a lot of credit to Avery, but the first half, we weren’t giving ourselves the best position to be successful. We had to make some adjustments, unfortunately we were a little late with it.”
“It’s only game two, so still a lot to play,” Kerns concluded.
Megan Lind paced the Lady Wave with nine points, and Sara Loudy accounted for eight GHS points.
