GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave continues to struggle with their leading scorer on the bench in dropping a 48-19 MVL game to the visiting Butler Lady Aviators.
“We just have to figure out again, shifting roles, who’s going to do what,” said Greenville coach, Rachael Kerns. “We can’t turn the ball over at half court.”
The teams played to an 8-6 Butler advantage after one period of play with Greenville’s Maddie Hutchens coming off the bench to account for all six Lady Wave points.
A Megan Loudy 3-pointer at 7:32 to open second-quarter play gave Greenville a short lived 9-8 lead as the visitors would use a 14-2 scoring run to lead 22-11 at the break.
“Maddie knew her role today,” Kerns said. “She’s definitely the spark we needed there in the first half. We just have to figure out who else can step up and score but it was nice to see her see her ball go in a little bit.”
The visitors took the third quarter 13-5 and continued to press most of the fourth period taking the final quarter 13-3 in earning the conference win.
“Give Jayda Lyons a lot of credit,” said Coach Kerns. “No. 2 (Noel Smith 9.7 average) is a nice ballplayer and she scores a lot. She didn’t score any points until the fourth quarter until we had already taken Brooke Schmidt out and took Jayda off of her. People aren’t going to see that in the box score but Jayda doesn’t give up many points no matter who she’s guarding. We just have to figure out how we can do better on the offensive end.”
Maddie Hutchens led Greenville with nine points.
