GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave blanked the visiting Tippecanoe Lady Red Devils 2-0 in Monday night MVL action at Lady Wave Stadium.
The Lady Red Devils entered the game with a perfect 9-0 record, averaging 15 runs per game while outscoring their opponents 135-5, including seven shutouts and eight games by run rule.
“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach Jerrod Newland. “Two great teams and a festive atmosphere. Be a buzz saw Wednesday at Tipp.”

Tipp opened the night with an infield single, one of just three Lady Red Devils hits on the night with the runner stranded out at third with a groundout to Ella Oswalt on the mound, a groundout to Kylar Arnett at second and a third out back to the pitcher, Oswalt keeping the visitors off the board.
A two-out walk to Oswalt was the lone Lady Wave highlight in the bottom of the first inning, with two of the MVL’s best teams headed to second inning play.
The Lady Red Devils went quietly in the top of the second, bringing Lizzie Shaffer to the plate to lead off the bottom of the inning with a line drive double to right, her first of two doubles on the day. A Kendall Cromwell groundout to the pitcher moved Shaffer to third. A grounder to second off the bat of Lily Brubaker had Shaffer beating the throw to home for the game’s first run of the night.

Oslwalt set Tipp down in order in the top of the third striking out the side, with nine strikes and just two balls tossed in the inning.
The Lady Wave took advantage of an Arnett one-out single to center and a Zoey Burns two-out, run-scoring single to center, giving Greenville a 2-0 lead that would hold up for the night’s final score.

“Big MVL win and huge crowd at the stadium for both teams,” said Newland. “We made some nice plays and got the ‘W’. Always nice to get the first one over the teams in our half (MVL Miami Division).”
Greenville freshman Ella Oswalt went the distance to earn the conference win, allowing no runs, three hits, no walks, and 1 HBP while striking out eight.
“The younin’ did a great job on the mound, and we put the ball in play very solid and square,” Newland stated.
Lizzie Shaffer paced the Lady Wave at the plate, going 2-3, both doubles and one run; Lily Brubaker was 2-3 with 1 RBI; Kylar Arnett 1-3, 1 run; Zoey Burns 1-3, 1 RBI; Ella Oswalt 1-2 and a walk.

“Kids are starting to play faster and crisper,” Newland said. “Excited for the week of softball with Tipp again and then the big Saturday at the Stadium.”
With the win, the Lady Wave improved to 10-1 (7-0), and Tippecanoe dropped to 9-1 (7-1) on the season.
