Lady Trojans defense struggles in loss to Waynesville

Waynesville takes advantage of six unearned runs to down Arcanum in non-conference action

ARCANUM – The Waynesville Lady Spartans took advantage of 1-earned run to defeat the Arcanum Lady Trojans in non-conference softball action.

“I don’t know what happened, that’s not us especially with errors,” said Arcanum coach, Mike Morris.    “We just have to take care of business.”

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning with Arcanum plating two runs in the bottom of the third and a single run in the bottom of the fourth to even the score at 3 apiece.

Arcanum pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth taking a 4-3 lead over the visiting Lady Spartans before the wheels fell off in the top of the seventh scoring three unearned runs to defeat the Lady Trojans.

“Seven runs, one earned run, we had four errors, four base running errors,” Morris noted. “That’s their first win so congratulations to them.”

Arcanum outhit the visitors 9-8 but committed four uncharacteristic errors while Waynesville was flawless in the field making the difference in the game.

“We just have to take care of business,” Coach Morris said. “We didn’t hit very well either today so get back at it Tuesday, league game and try to get back on track.”

Emilie Fout paced the Lady Trojans at the plate going 2-2, both doubles and a RBI; Paige Burrell was 2-2 with 2-runs scored; Reece Blinn 1-2, 1-RBI, 1-Run; Mollie Ericksen 1-4, 1-run; Kaitlyn Toy 1-3, 1-RBI; Brooklyn Ullery and Ashlyn Miller each 1-3.

Belle Harleman started for Arcanum pitching 2.0 innings, allowing 2-earned runs, 1-walk and no strikeouts. Hannah Kendig went 5.0 innings allowing 1-earned run, 3-walks while striking out two.

Arcanum stays undefeated in conference play with a 3-0 mark and drops to 6-2 overall on the season. The Lady Trojans hosts the Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks in WOAC play, Tuesday, April 11 with a 5 p.m. start time.
