PITSBURG – The Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks set the tone for the night jumping out to a first-set 6-0 lead on their way to a 3-0 WOAC win over the Franklin Monroe Lady Jets following back-to-back losses.
“It was nice to come back and play like we did tonight, as I know we can,” said Mississinwa Valley coach Nancy Whitted. “We showed up and were the team we always have been.”
“We could not find our energy tonight,” Lady Jets coach Angie Filbrun stated. “They kept us on our heels; we just couldn’t get anything rolling.”
The Lady Hawks earned their first double-digit lead of the night at 19-9, bringing a Lady Jets timeout at 20-10, on their way to a 25-13 first-set win.
Set No. 2 had Franklin Monroe playing four points better in coming up short 25-17 to trail Mississinawa Valley 2-0 after two complete.
“We played well,” said Whitted. “Gretchen Rodeheffer had some passes, and she’s not a back row player; she had some good blocks. The Hoggatt twins always show up; they all showed up tonight.”
The teams battled to an extra-point third set, with the visiting Lady Hawks earning a 26-24 win.
“The third set, I thought we were finally able to get some stuff going and create some out of the system on their side,” said Coach Filbrun, “but it was just too late.”
“We put the ball up there to the net and they decided they were going to hit it right back in our face, and good for them,” Filbrun added. They have some solid offense up there at that net. We allowed it to happen instead of making it happen.”
For the Lady Hawks, Makenna Hoggatt led with 13 kills, and Cora Hoggatt with 10 kills. Danika Neargarder accounted for 12 digs, C. Hoggatt 11 digs, and M. Hoggatt and Allyson Waymire each with 10 digs. Neargarder had 31 assists.
Franklin Monroe by the numbers, Presley Cox 12 kills, Addie Bauman 11 digs, and Layni Ressler 10 digs. Bauman accounted for 19 assists.
