UNION CITY – The Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks turned a competitive first half into a runaway win, defeating the Ansonia Lady Tigers 66-38 in Saturday’s Annual Route 47 Shootout, completing a season sweep after an earlier 49-47 WOAC thriller between the two county rivals.
Ansonia came out sharp, jumping to an 11-5 first-quarter lead and closing the period in front 14-11 behind nine points from Charlotte Barga, including a 3-pointer. The Lady Tigers’ early energy kept Mississinawa Valley off balance and set the tone for a physical opening half.
Mississinawa Valley answered in the second quarter, flipping the game with a 15-6 run. Makenna Hoggatt knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, Brooklynn Seubert scored four points, and triples from Lilly Geesaman and Paige Emerick helped the Lady Blackhawks seize a 26-20 lead at the halftime break.
The second half belonged entirely to Mississinawa Valley.
The Lady Blackhawks extended the margin in the third quarter, outscoring Ansonia 15-9 to push the lead to double figures at 41-29. Paige Emerick paced the period with five points, while Tenlee Woodbury and Brooklynn Seubert each buried 3-pointers. Baskets from Hoggatt and Cassidy Seubert rounded out the balanced scoring attack.
Any remaining doubt was erased in the fourth quarter as Mississinawa Valley exploded for 25 points while its pressure defense limited Ansonia to just seven. The Lady Blackhawks forced turnovers, converted in transition, and closed the game with authority to secure the 28-point victory.
Mississinawa Valley was efficient at the free-throw line, connecting on 15-of-18 attempts (83.3 percent), while Ansonia finished 6-of-13 (46.1 percent) at the stripe.
Balanced scoring led the way for the Lady Blackhawks, with Brooklynn Seubert scoring 15 points, Paige Emerick adding 14, and Makenna Hoggatt contributing 12. Charlott Barga led Ansonia with 11 points.
With the win, Mississinawa Valley improves to 15-1 overall and remains alone atop the Western Ohio Athletic Conference with a perfect 8-0 league record. Ansonia falls to 9-5 on the season.
