GREENVILLE – Keith Horst, the voice of the Darke County Tractor Pullers Association (DCTPA), can be heard around Ohio and Indiana doing the trackside announcing at tractor pulls.
“I’ve pulled for the last twenty-some years with my father, Dennis,” said Horst. “My father pulled over 50 years, and last year when we decided to hang it up and retire from the sport. I told the club I would be available more this year to announce the pulls because I didn’t have other commitments, so here I am.”
Horst and his father pulled at many Grand National events over the years and the pulls put on by the DCTPA.
“Keith started with us a couple of years ago,” said DCTPA VP Kyle Schlechty. “He used to pull mini rods and NTPA mini rods, grew up working on a lot of equipment, and is extremely knowledgeable about tractors and pulling and the history of the sport. His dad was very involved in the Tractor Pulling Association (TPA) back in the day. Keith’s knowledge is great, and he has a true passion for it.”
For over 34 years, the Late Duane “Lum” Edwards, owner-operator of Black Sheep Announcing, was heard announcing for the National Tractor Pullers Association, DCTPA, and the Hoosier State Tractor Pullers Association.
With Edwards passing in early 2023, Horst’s distinct voice is now heard at the trackside microphone. His extensive knowledge about pullers is key to keeping fans informed and entertained. Horst brings a wealth of experience to tractor-pulling fans.
“I had been announcing the past few years off and on with Duane and with the club,” Horst noted. “I’m doing more announcing now. I’m not saying I’m the world’s best announcer, but I try.”
