Katie Weiss and her Cow

This is Katie Weiss’ last year showing her dairy cows at the Fair! This year, she is showing her cow Bountiful. Katie has been in 4-H for nine years and was a Cloverbud for four years. She is in the Grade A Kids 4-H club and has been showing for 13 years!

Katie just graduated from Arcanum schools and is headed to IU East for Nursing.

She shared one of her favorite memories of showing.

“My first year, I got a March calf, so they are only a few months old; they are just babies,” Katie said. “It was my first cow; her name was Colorful. That year, she did not do very good. We took her to several different shows, and she got last in almost every single show because she was so small.

“The next year, I brought her, and she won almost all of her shows. I remember being so proud of her because I thought she was going to do bad because she had lost so much the last year, and then she won almost every show.”

Katie’s cow, Bountiful, is Colorful’s daughter, and she was Colorful’s other daughter, Wonderful, at home.

Katie says the most challenging part of showing cows at the Fair is getting them ready and keeping them comfortable.

While at the Fair, Katie enjoys spending time with her friends and family in 4-H.

We wish Katie the best of luck with her cows and with college!
