The Supreme Court of Ohio appointed Second District Court of Appeals Judge Chris Epley Chair of the Commission on Professionalism for a one-year term beginning January 1, 2026. Judge Epley has served on the Commission since 2022. The purpose of the Commission is to promote professionalism among attorneys admitted to practice law in Ohio. The Commission is composed of five judges, six lawyers, two law school administrators or faculty, and two persons not admitted to practice law in any state. The Commission’s projects include the lawyer to lawyer mentoring program, student to lawyer symposium, developing educational materials, and the rural outreach initiative.
Judge Epley joined the Court of Appeals in February 2021. He served as Presiding and Administrative Judge for the court in 2024 and 2025. Judge Epley is active in the bar associations that make up the Second District and serves as a faculty member of the Ohio Judicial College.
“I am honored to be appointed by Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy to this role. I look forward to continuing the great work the commission does every year,” said Judge Epley.
Judge Epley is from Dayton, Ohio. He earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Denison University, where he majored in English Literature and Spanish and played soccer, earning all-conference honors. Chris and his wife Eileen are the parents of Jack and Lily.
