DARKE COUNTY – On Friday at approximately 8:10 p.m., Darke County Deputies, along with Greenville City Fire Department and Greenville Township Fire & Rescue, were dispatched to the 3000 block of Cox Road outside of Greenville in reference to an injury accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling east on Cox Road. The Chrysler traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a creek bank. The juvenile driver was transported to Wayne HealthCare by Greenville Twp. Rescue for suspected minor injuries.

During this incident, both lanes of travel were being blocked by a Deputy while the tow truck was recovering the vehicle involved in the crash. A 2008 Hummer was traveling westbound on Cox Road and attempted to drive through the roadblock. The driver, Duane Ditty (71) of Greenville, drove partially in the ditch but struck the deputy’s cruiser.

The Deputy and Ditty were uninjured in this crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to the scene to handle this crash report.

Through their investigation, Ditty was subsequently placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired and transported to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
