Holiday ramblings … and not much else!

From the Sidelines

It is that time of the year again…a time for family, get togethers with friends, parties, good food and drink, and sports of course. As the football season winds down, Basketball is just starting up. The transition is easy and keeps us all entertained, until spring training for Baseball, and other summer sports…..it is a never ending cycle. Sometimes it is easy to overlook the achievements and goals reached by teams and individuals because of the rapid change of seasons and sports.

Congratulations to Marion Local on their record-setting 76-game win streak. That is a notable achievement for any team or player in any sport, and Congratulations to St. Henry for ending the streak. As of this writing, St. Henry and Coldwater are still in the playoffs, and both could win state Championships….We are all rooting for them!

Right now, most local golf courses are promoting their off-season memberships, and you can save some money by getting them now. I know for sure that Turtle Creek does, so check all of them out for some money-saving deals!

The BIG GAME is this weekend, Ohio State and Michigan, by far the greatest rivalry in college football. Ohio State’s undefeated season is on the line, and a playoff spot is up for the Wolverines. Ohio State should win, but it is a rivalry game, so everything is out the window. This one is bigger than most for both teams!

This year I am going to try and catch a girls volleyball game. I never seem to do that, but I do read the coverage of all the Darke County leagues and pictures from Gaylen Blosser. What would the High School teams do without Gaylen? He works his butt off for the kids, and every school needs to appreciate his efforts. He is the best, and a great friend!

Athletes who aren’t playing other sports this winter should be working out in the weight room. Greenville starts supervised workouts on Dec. 1st, and they are open to all Greenville athletes. In order to compete in sports today, athletes need to get stronger and faster….that is just the way it is now….and really always was. So, if you want to be ready for Golf, Soccer, Baseball, or football next year, get going NOW! You can contact the Athletic Director at your school for more information, I am sure, or check with the coach!

Speaking of Greenville, Coach Channell is actively recruiting young men for football next year. It is going pretty well, as he has about 40 more men who have inquired about playing next year. If you have never played, used to play, or transferred to another school, contact the coach; he would love to have you back!!

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and Rosie is preparing a turkey dinner in our crockpot this year. Never done this before, but the recipe looks good, and I am all in! (told you it was just ramblings!)

OH yeah…. I almost forgot…. go try the 19th hole at Turtle Creek. It is under new management, and things are really looking up. The new restaurant manager, Jennifer, is a real hoot, and there is a marked improvement there. Go check it out!

Our Christmas trees are already up (we have 2!) and this is the first year I have them up this early … and I must say they look great! Man, I do good work … under my wife’s direction, of course!

I am looking forward to our annual Spring golf trip next year. I got a good deal to play golf in the Gatlinburg/Sevierville area in April. The crew: myself, Greg White, Randy Breaden, and Dale Ary, will enjoy a week of nice weather and good times….we always do!

Next year marks 50 years of marriage for Rosie and me. It has gone by too fast! We have a couple of trips planned to make this a memorable year. Fifty years … man time flies when you are with someone who is a joy to be around … and can put up with me!

Enough rambling for now….HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!

That’s the way I ramble….from the sidelines!
