GREENVILLE – Greenville senior Kylie Hamm threw a Lady Wave no-hitter Friday night and the offense plated 11-runs to run rule the visiting West Carrollton Lady Pirates in MVL play.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Today it was a little wet out hear early and everybody was wondering what we was going to do but just a good day for Lady Wave Softball.”

With heaving rains passing through the night and morning the game was moved to the diamond beside Lady Wave Stadium after hours of work getting the field read.

“We made a decision moving on this field,” said Newland. “A great decision, field is in great shape, wasn’t a question at all and we got them up here and played a game.”

The teams played to a 0-0 standoff over the first two-innings before the Lady Wave broke the game open with 8-runs in the bottom of the third with Kendall Cromwell, Kylar Arnett, Ella McLear, Skylar Fletcher and Hamm all driving in runs.

Greenville tacked on 3-runs in the bottom of the fourth while Hamm was keeping the visitors off the base paths in the top of the fifth to give the hometown Lady Wave a Miami Valley League win.

Hamm pitched the complete game ho-hitter allowing 1-walk while striking out 12 Lady Pirates over five-innings of work.

“Hamm did a great job on the mound today, attacking, attacking, attacking,” Coach Newland stated. “Just fun stuff. Draw Sunday and see where this destination takes us.”

Ella McLear paced the Lady Wave at the plate going 2-2 including a double, 3-RBIs and 2-runs scored. Fletcher knocked a double to go 1-2 with a walk, 3-RBIs and a run; Mahayla Cook was 1-1 with a walk, 1-RBI and 1-run; Cromwell 1-2, 1-RBI, 1-run; Hamm 1-2 1-RBI; Haleigh McDermitt 1-1, 1-run; Marissa Hicks, a walk, 1-RBI; Ayma Mills 1-run.

The Lady Wave played error free ball in the home win.

Coach Newland took time to recognize the many that helped get the diamond in playable condition for the MVL matchup.

“We have a few people out here, coaches, my dad’s out here at eight o’clock in the morning, Denny’s (Ruble) here by eleven, Tom’s (Cromwell) here, Mr. Shaffer (Greenville AD) is out here in boots mucking it in, Eric Fellers, Steve – we’re all in it together and that’s for kids to play,” Newland said. “Today was a great chance for us to play a league game and get a win and obviously we’ll get our destiny Sunday.

The Lady Wave tournament draw is this Sunday, April 29th.

With the win Greenville Lady Wave improve to 15-4 overall and 12-1 in conference play.
