GREENVILLE – Greenville senior Shyanne Gibboney, the daughter of Bill and Cathy Gibboney, signed to take her volleyball skills to the next level, playing for the Trine University Lady Thunder volleyball program while continuing her education with studies in Civil Engineering.
“I am really excited about playing volleyball with the team and getting my education,” Gibboney stated. “I started looking at smaller schools because I didn’t like the big school feel. I started emailing around, and one of the ones that reached out was Trine, and it felt right after going on a few visits.”

“Shyanne played libero and played a significant role for Greenville volleyball the last few years,” said Greenville coach Michelle Hardesty. “She is an anchor; you have to have a good setter, and you have to have someone who is going to put it away, but you have to have that person there to pass that ball up.
“As a freshman, we could see her drive and determination to succeed,” Hardesty added. “She put a lot of extra work into earning the varsity libero spot as a sophomore. That year, she broke the season record for digs, owns the single match record, and shattered the career record.”
Gibboney was named to the All-MVL Second Team in 2023 and 2024 and the Division I, II, and III District Nine Second Team in 2024, her senior season. The Greenville senior finished her career with 1,109 digs and 119 service aces.

“Shyanne leaves us as the greatest passer in the history of Greenville volleyball,” Coach Hardesty stated. She owns everything when it comes to passing and digs.”
“She’s a good Labero,” said GHS assistant coach Jim Hardesty. “She’ll excel; she’s a hard worker. She does what it takes to do what she wants to do.”
Coach Michelle Hardesty was pleased with Gibboney’s leadership role in the Lady Wave volleyball program.

“Shyanne could be hard on herself, but when it came to her teammates, she was right there for them,” Hardesty said. “She was always encouraging and picking them up, leading and teaching. Over the last four years, Shyannee has accomplished so much. Her dedication and work ethic are an inspiration.” She put in the extra work needed to elevate her game, leading to the next level. Trine is getting an outstanding defensive specialist and teammate. I have enjoyed coaching Shyanne; it’s been a pleasure, and we wish her the best at Trine.”
Gibboney thanked those who helped her reach her goal of competing at the next level.
“I want to thank my parents, siblings, and coaches, Jim and Shelley Hardesty,” she said.
