Greenville wrestlers get big senior night victory over Sidney

GREENVILLE – The Green Wave varsity wrestling team celebrated senior night with a 63-12 MVL spanking of the Sidney Yellow Jackets.

“I have a good crew of seniors,” said Greenville wrestling coach David Guillozet. “They are a lot of fun to be with, they work hard, and they are going to be missed for sure. I am super proud of them for what they’ve become since their freshman year. I see good things coming from them in the future.”

Greenville seniors wrestling their final home match for the Green Wave include Carl Billenstein (157), William Bush (165), Juan Gutierrez (150), Ashton Noggle (132), Damian Velasquez, and Andrew Winner (285).

The Wave jumped out to a 12-0 lead, with Jack Suter (106) and Henry Allread (113) earning wins by forfeit. Sidney followed with pins at 120 and 126 to knot the score at 12-12 in what played out to be the final wins of the night.

GHS senior Ashton Noggle (132) earned a technical fall, defeating the Jackets’ Kelan Woodell 17-2, upping Greenville’s lead to 17-12. Cael Cromwell (138) followed with a 17-8 major decision over Sidney’s Bladen Chanler, giving the Wave a 21-12 advantage.

Bradley Bush received a forfeit at 144 pounds, and senior Juan Gutierrez (150) earned an 11-7 decision over Sidney’s Relax Winals, giving Greenville a 30-12 lead.

Sidney forfeited back-to-back matches at 157 and 165 to Green Wave senior Carl Billenstein (157) and senior William Bush (165), upping the Greenville score to 42-12

The Wave’s Vinny Parin pinned Keaton Shaffer at 1:58, good for six points, and Michael Fox (190) won an 11-6 decision over Sidney’s Rayden Wells, pushing the Greenville lead to 51-12.

The Green Wave closed the night with back-to-back pins from Anthony Gutierrez and senior Andrew Winner. Gutierrez pined the Jackets’ Braylon Fisher at 2:34, giving Greenville a 57-12 lead.

Greenville record-setting senior Andrew added to his GHS all-time pin record by recording his 97th Greenville Senior High School pin over William Boehm in under a minute (00:52), giving the Green Wave an impressive senior night victory. Winner moves his Greenville all-time career wins to well over one hundred.

“Andrew Winner is killing it out there,” Coach Guillozet stated. “He’s pinning just about everybody he’s wrestled, so he’s having a really good season, and I am very proud of him.”

“It’s been fun,” Winner said following the match. “I’ve enjoyed my time here at Greenville.”
