GREENVILLE – The Greenville Green Wave made it back-to-back wins on the season defeating Piqua on the Indians’ home court 53-48 in Friday night MVL action.

“It wasn’t pretty, but still a road win in the MVL,” said Greenville coach, Matt Hamilton. “We struggled with turnovers against their 1-3-1, they are very active and rotate well.”

Liam Jasenski had the hot hand for the Wave leading the team with 18 points including five 3-pointers, three coming in the second quarter to help Greenville take the second by an 18-14 count sending the teams to the break with the Wave holding a slim 26-24 advantage. Layne Hocker accounted for two treys in the first half, one each in the first and second quarters to help lead GHS to the two-point first-half advantage.

“Liam stepped up and shot the ball well which helped relieve that pressure,” Hamilton stated. “Overall the guys just played selfless hard-nosed basketball and got the win.”

Greenville extended its lead to eight points after three periods of play with Jasenski canning his fourth and fifth triples of the night to go along with 2-2 at the charity stripe good for eight points to send the game to the final quarter with the Wave holding a 42-34 lead.

The Wave was able to hold off Piqua’s fourth-quarter attempted comeback with the home town Indians taking the period 14-11 and falling to the visiting Green Wave.

Greenville was 11-22 at the free throw line, Piqua was good on 8-12 at the charity stripe with the difference in the game coming beyond the arc with the Wave canning eight threes to the Indians’ four triples.
