GREENVILLE – The Green Wave battled back from a one-point halftime deficit to outscore the home-standing Troy Trojans 25-15 in second-half play to pick up its third Miami Valley League win of the season.

“Really proud of the team,” said Greenville coach, Matt Hamilton. “We’re working on some specific things defensively and the guys put it together tonight, relentless effort, and being confident on offense.”

Greenville took the opening quarter 11-7 led by 6’2” senior forward, Chase Drew accounting for six Wave points including a 3-pointer.

The Trojans stormed back with 18 second-quarter points while Greenville was denting the board with 13 points sending the teams to the break with the home team holding a slim 25-24 halftime advantage. Drew Hamilton led Greenville with five second-period points including his first triple of the night. Liam Jasenski canned his second trey of the game.

“Troy made a run in the second quarter and we lost the lead going into halftime,” Coach Hamilton stated. “We talked about how important the first four minutes of the third quarter would be, and set a goal to have the lead back by then.”

“At 4:02 Troy called a timeout, and we looked up and we had the lead,” Hamilton continued. “It was a battle from then on but we continued to play together and got a road win.”

Greenville’s defense was on display in period No. 3 with the Green Wave holding the Trojans to a low of six points while Greenville was taking advantage of nine Drew Hamilton points including his second 3-pointer of the night and going 2-2 at the line. Jasenski canned his third triple of the game in as many quarters giving the Wave a 38-31 lead heading to the final period of action.

The visiting Green Wave held a five-point 42-37 lead at 1:19 in the fourth as Troy battled to get the elusive lead back only to have Greenville close out the contest with a 7-3 run to earn the nine points conference victory. Greenville was an impressive 7-9 (78 percent) at the fourth-quarter free-throw line. Hamilton and Jack Chick each accounted for four fourth-quarter points.

Hamilton led Greenville and all scorers with a game-high 20 points including a perfect 4-4 at the free-throw line. Jasenski also hit double figures for the Wave draining three 3-pointer while going 2-2 at the charity stripe.

Greenville hosts Steve Pitman’s Bethel Bees tonight, January 20th at the 38th Annual Greenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony with the presentation held prior to the varsity game.
