GREENVILLE – The Greenville varsity boys tennis team opened the 2024 season sweeping the visiting Celina Bulldogs 5-0 in non-conference play.

“Great way to start the season and knock the rust off to get match play started,” said Greenville coach, Sam Bowers. “We returned most of our varsity team this year, so a good amount of varsity experience, however, we have kids playing in different slots this year so we are going to have to learn our new positions quickly.”

Mason Pierrie, Will Gettinger, and Kaitlyn Combs won their singles matches, and the doubles teams of Simon Snyder / Drew Beisner and Avery Yount / Eli Willis won at doubles.

“It is great seeing our doubles teams gain confidence playing together,” Coach Bowers said. “Will Gettinger is playing singles for the first time and he has been playing really good tennis thus far in practices and early season. Mason Pierri will be an anchor for us with it being his second season holding down our No. 1 spot.”

“Great to see a kid like Eli Willis get his first varsity win as a freshman,” added Bowers. “A kid that worked his tail off all off-season to put himself in a varsity spot to start the year.”

The Wave Tennis Team takes on a very talented Milton-Union Team this Wednesday at home starting at 4:30.
