VANDALIA – Greenville American Legion Post 140 defeated Sidney Post 217 18U by a 5-2 score, with Zack Fulk going the distance to earn the Post 140 win.

“Zach Fulk really stepped up for us when we needed it,” said Greenville Post 140 coach Chad Henry. “We’ve had some things not go our way lately and he really put the team on his back.”

Post 14 took an early 3-0 lead, getting a single run in the top first with a Zack Fulk RBI single and plating two runs in the top of the third, taking advantage of a Layne Hocker single, a Brayden Huggins run-scoring triple to center and a Bryce Kramer sacrifice fly to center.

Sidney made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the third before Greenville Post 140 got a sixth-inning bases-loaded run scoring walk for a 4-1 advantage.

“Having Huggs at the top of the lineup adds an incredible dimension to the team,” said Henry. “He’s extremely quick on the bases, but he drives gaps as well as anyone in the lineup. His triple really came at a time we needed a spark.”

Post 217 tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-2 score, and Post 140 added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, with Braeden Wills scoring the final run of the game, giving Greenville American Legion a win over the Shelby County team.

In picking up the win on the mound, Fulk allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits, 2 walks while striking out 6 Sidney batters.

“Zach did a great job of limiting runners and really slammed the door, stranding them when they did reach,” Coach Henry stated.

Brauden Huggins went 2-2 with a walk, 1 RBI, and 1 run; Zack Fulk was 2-3 with a walk and an RBI; Bryce Kramer went 1-3, 1 RBI; Braden Chambers 1-2 with a walk, 2 runs; Layne Hocker 1-3 with a run; and Xavker Mathews a walk and 1 RBI.
