GREENVILLE – Greenville American Legion Post 140 baseball coach Chad Henry formally presented Post 140 Commander Ken Wombold with the Region 2 runner-up trophy, along with a special commemorative bat celebrating the 100th year of American Legion Baseball, recognizing the accomplishments of the 2025 Greenville Post 140 team.
Only eight commemorative bats were distributed statewide, and one now has a permanent home at Greenville American Legion Post 140.
“We were presented with the 100th year of American Legion Baseball, a commemorative bat that I thought was really awesome,” Henry said. “They presented us with the bat, and we won our next two games in the state tournament, beating Sidney—who beat us for Region 2—so we outlasted them again for the second year in a row. We came through and lost to the eventual state runner-up team.”
Eight American Legion teams from across Ohio advanced to Lancaster’s Beavers Field to compete in the state’s double-elimination championship tournament. Each team earned its berth by winning a divisional tournament, with two teams from each of the four regions qualifying for the state field.
“The team represented our American Legion Post 140 very well,” Wombold said. “We are very pleased with the young men and coaching staff who represented us all year and in the state tournament as well.”
Greenville Post 140, representing District 3, fell to Sidney Post 217 in the Region 2 championship game at Bellefontaine but still secured a state tournament berth as one of the top two regional finishers.
“We received the runner-up for Region 2 this year,” Henry said. “We lost to Sidney in the regional championship game played at Bellefontaine, but because we were in the top two, we were still admitted to go to the state tournament.”
Greenville earned entry into the eight-team bracket with a pre-state victory, then opened tournament play by defeating Marietta Post 64. Post 140 later dropped a close contest to Ottawa Post 63 before eliminating Sidney Post 217 with its second win of the tournament. Greenville’s postseason run ended with a loss to Harrison’s Yeager-Benson Post 199, the eventual state runner-up. Beverly-Lowell Post 389-750 captured the 2025 state championship.
American Legion Baseball, celebrating its 100th season in 2026, remains one of the premier summer baseball programs for high school athletes in Ohio and across the nation. The program remains a major pipeline to professional baseball, with more than half of Major League Baseball players in 2024 having competed in American Legion competition during their amateur careers.
The Ohio state tournament features eight teams competing in a double-elimination format, showcasing the top Legion programs from throughout the state.
