GREENVILLE – The Brethren Retirement Community (BRC) will host “Coffee and Conversation with the Cops” on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 9 a.m. in the Brick Room of its main building, 750 Chestnut Street, offering the public an opportunity to connect with local law enforcement while learning how to better protect themselves from scams.
The informal morning event will feature representatives from the Greenville Police Department, with coffee and donuts available as attendees visit with officers before a presentation on current scam trends and practical prevention strategies.
“This is another part of the scam, fraud prevention that we are putting out there,” said Greenville Police Chief Ryan Benge. “It is open to the public and is open to people of all ages because it’s not just one age group anymore; it’s all ages.”
Benge emphasized that scams are impacting a wide range of individuals throughout the community.
“We’re seeing people all the way from 15 years of age to in their 90s that are being scammed,” he said. “The awareness of it and getting it out there that these are the trends we’re seeing is going to go a long way in helping protect our citizens.”
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in open discussion with officers, addressing concerns and gaining practical advice.
BRC officials say the event reflects an ongoing partnership focused on community safety and education.
