January 3, 2025 – At approximately 1553 hours I was dispatched to 525 Harrison Avenue in reference to a CPO Violation.

Upon arrival, I made contact with Jan Clay. Jan stated he has an active Domestic Violence CPO against his wife, Brandy Clay. Jan stated Brandy has been sending him text messages on Facebook Messenger. Dispatch advised Brandy was served with the CPO on December 30th, 2024, at approximately 1345 hours. Jan showed me messages that were allegedly sent by Brandy at 2020 hours and it was a Smile Emoji. Jan then sent Brandy a text message in response on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024, at 0131 hours that stated “I’m sure you can and will use this against me but I’m sorry for how things are”. I saw that the message had been responded to but the sender unsent it. I saw text messages between Jan and allegedly Brandy about several things such as money and Brandy asking if she could come back to Jan’s residence. The rest of the messages were stamped with the time of day and day of the week but were not date-stamped. Jan took screenshots of the text messages and sent them to my email. Jan showed me a copy of the CPO and on page three and article six, the CPO states that Brandy can not initiate or have any contact with Jan. The CPO is in effect from 12/27/2024 to 12/27/2025.

Jan advised Brandy has been coming onto his property. I asked Jan how he knows and he stated his stepson saw Brandy come to his house. Jan did not want me to speak with his stepson about it. Jan stated he saw Brandy’s boyfriend’s car sitting in front of his house that day around 1430 hours but could not see if Brandy was in the car or not.

After speaking to Jan, I made contact with Brandy over the phone. Brandy stated she was not in Greenville and would try to find transportation to the Greenville Police Department to speak with me. Further investigation is needed to confirm that Brandy sent the text messages and will be done when I can speak with her.

I attempted to call Brandy’s phone back and could not make contact with her due to the number being a textnow number. I will continue to attempt to make contact with her.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY

January 3, 2025 – At approximately 1749 hours, I responded to 1301 Wagner Avenue; McDonald’s North, in reference to the business receiving a counterfeit $100 bill.
Upon my arrival, I made contact with the on-duty manager, Angel. Angel stated that at approximately 1730 hours, a male subject placed an order in their drive-thru. Upon getting to the first window to pay for his meal, the subject gave another employee a fake $100 bill while she was at the cash register. Angel stated she did not realize this bill was fake and gave the subject back change for his order. After receiving his meal at the second window, the subject left the scene. Attached to this report is the subject’s receipt that shows he ordered, “2 Medium Caramel Frappes and 1 Holiday Pie” totaling $10.87. The subject paid with the fake $100 bill and received $89.13 as change.

After the subject left the drive-thru, that employee reviewed the bill and found it to say “For Motion Picture Purposes. This Note Is Not Legal Tender.” Angel stated after marking the fake bill with a counterfeit pen, staff confirmed the bill was fake. The staff then called the police department in reference to this issue.

Angel stated that to obtain camera footage from the drive-thru window, of this incident to identify the suspect, her general manager would have to be notified. Angel stated that upon her general manager being notified, it would be their decision to contact McDonald’s corporate. Angel was given my business card so video footage could be sent to our records department to be attached to this case, if obtained. Angel also printed out a receipt of the suspect’s order that will be attached to this report. This bill was seized and placed into property.

At this time there are no suspects. Until McDonald’s corporation makes contact with our department in reference to this incident, there will be nothing further at this time.

THEFT

November 29, 2024 – At approximately 1720 hours I was dispatched to 916 Washington Avenue in reference to a theft of a trailer.

Upon arrival, Travis Cresap, the complainant, stated his black Haulmark 2004 cargo trailer was stolen. Travis stated the trailer was parked behind his house and he last saw it on Tuesday, November 27th. Travis stated he went to work Wednesday morning and noticed the trailer was gone. Travis stated he allows friends to use the trailer often and checked with them prior to reporting it
stolen.

Travis stated he spoke with his neighbors about the trailer and asked them if they noticed any strange vehicles or people in the area. Travis stated his neighbor saw an older maroon Chevrolet Silverado hook the trailer up and take it. The neighbor stated the vehicle was operated by a male with long blond hair and a long beard. The male appeared to be in his late fifties. The neighbor stated there was a female in the passenger seat who had blond hair. The female appears to be in her late forties. The male and female were both wearing sunglasses. The neighbor stated he had never seen the vehicle and thought it was suspicious so he took photographs. The neighbor stated this occurred on Tuesday at approximately 1535 hours.

Travis stated he did not know the vehicle or the subjects that were operating it. Travis filled out a statement form and a victim’s rights form. Travis sent me the photographs by email to be added to this report. The trailer was entered LEADS/NCIC as stolen.

January 2, 2024 – At approximately 1035 hours, I observed the listed GMC truck bearing Ohio registration JZF7703 being operated by a male subject with long hair and a female subject in the passenger seat. I recognized the vehicle as being the suspect vehicle in the trailer theft in this report which had photos of the suspects and vehicle in the GPD briefing log since the listed trailer had been reported stolen.

On the listed date, I observed the vehicle pulling into the parking lot of the Funky Munky Flea Market, 609 Walnut Street.

I pulled into the parking lot and found that the occupants of the vehicle had exited and went into the store. P. O. Daugherty arrived on the scene and he and I were able to locate the subjects inside the store. The subjects identified themselves as Benjamin Miller and Brooke Swartz. We asked both subjects to come outside and speak with us. Benjamin was taken to the front of my cruiser in the parking lot while Brooke stayed by the front doors of the store.

While speaking with Benjamin, I advised him of his Miranda Rights which he stated he understood. I advised Benjamin that the truck he was driving was involved in the theft of a trailer on Washington Avenue. When I asked Benjamin who all drove the truck he advised that just he and Brooke did. Benjamin later advised that his friend, “John Smith” had borrowed the truck once.

I asked Benjamin what he was doing in Greenville today, which he advised that he was looking for scrap.

I advised Benjamin that the truck had been used in the theft of the trailer and that it looked like him in the driver’s seat. I asked him if he had borrowed a trailer which
he advised that he had a little trailer but denied having a box trailer.

I showed Benjamin a picture of his truck that was taken at the time of the theft which he would only say that it looked like his truck. Benjamin continued to deny borrowing or taking a trailer.

I asked Benjamin who Brooke was to him which he advised that she was his fiancé.
I walked over to where Brooke and P. O. Daugherty were standing to speak with her. I advised Brooke that approximately a month and a half ago, a trailer was stolen on Washington Avenue. I advised Brooke that we had photos of the truck and her and Benjamin taking the trailer. Brooke admitted that the only trailer they had gotten in Greenville and that they had spoke to a male subject at the house and gave him $50.00 for it. I asked Brooke if it was a box trailer which she advised that it was. I showed Brooke a photo of the trailer which she advised that it looked like the trailer they had bought. P. O. Daugherty asked Brooke if they were given a title for the trailer which she advised “they” said they did not have one. When I asked Brooke who they spoke with she advised she did not know his name but that it was an older guy with a limp. I asked Brooke what they did with the trailer she advised they took it to a scrap yard in Englewood. I asked Brooke if she thought it was weird to scrap a trailer that nice which she advised the way “he talked” he did not want to haul it away. I asked Brooke if what she was saying was that they paid $50.00 for the trailer to take it for scrap which she stated yeah and that they paid for it.
I went back over to Benjamin and advised him that Brooke was being honest but he was not. asked Benjamin to tell me about the trailer they had gotten here in town and taken to a scrap yard over in Englewood.

Benjamin stated that he did not take a trailer. I asked Benjamin if he bought it which he then said there was a gentlemen there that said it was his. I asked Benjamin to explain that to me then. Benjamin went on to advise they pulled over here in town
and there was a gentlemen and he sold it to them. When I asked Benjamin if the trailer was in an alley he stated that it was. Benjamin advised that he did not know the gentlemen and that Brooke had talked to the man and not him. I asked Benjamin what the man looked like which he described the man as being a “scruffy dude” with hat and glasses. I asked Benjamin how much they bought the trailer for which he advised Brooke had handled all of that.

I asked Benjamin where they had taken the trailer which he advised that it was taken to the scrap yard on State Route 40 and Dimond Mill Road. (Clayton Auto Parts & More) I asked Benjamin if he signed any paperwork when he dropped it off which he stated that he did not sign anything and did not know if Brooke signed anything. I asked Benjamin what kind of payment he was given for the trailer which he advised they gave him cash and then advised Brooke was the one that talked to them.

I went back over to Brooke and advised her of her Miranda Rights which she advised she understood. I asked Brooke again to explain the trailer and how they obtained it. Brooke advised they knocked on the door because they saw it sitting out back and that it had been there for a while. Some guy came around the corner and they asked him about the trailer and he told them $50.00 and it was theirs. I asked Brooke if he said it was his, which she then advised they said they were inquiring about the trailer and he told them he couldn’t find paperwork for it and that is why it had been sitting. I asked Brooke if there was a license plate on it which she advised she did not know. I asked Brooke who gave the man the $50.00 which she advised Benjamin did. I asked Brooke how much money they gave them at the scrap yard for the trailer which she advised $200.00. I asked Brooke why they would take the trailer to the scrap yard instead of selling it themselves and making more money due to the value which Brooke advised they needed the money. I asked Brooke who signed the paperwork and took the money at the scrap yard which she advised she did.

I advised Brooke that the story was very hard to believe, which she stated that it was what happened. At this time, I observed Brooke was starting to cry as I was speaking. I told Brooke that I believed that they had taken the trailer because they were down on their luck and took the trailer and scrapped it for money. I asked Brooke if that was the reason for taking the trailer which she again stated that they paid someone $50.00 for it. I told Brooke I was going to check video from the area from before they took the trailer, and I was going to see that there was no guy but Brooke again stated that there was a guy. Brooke began to cry even more, and I asked Brooke to be honest with me. I told Brooke that there was no guy and that they did not pay $50.00 for the trailer, and they took the trailer to scrap and get some money and asked her if I was right which she advised that I was.

I went back over to where Benjamin was standing and advised him that Brooke was being honest with me.

Benjamin advised that he thought they had bought it from “the dude”. I advised Benjamin that the stories did not add up and that Brooke had admitted to it. Benjamin then advised that he thought Brooke did talk to somebody and gave $50.00 for the trailer. I asked Benjamin if Brooke had told him that she had talked to somebody, but he did not answer and just looked down at the ground. Benjamin went on to advise multiple times that there was a guy they talked to, but I advised him that we had already ruled that the guy and buying the trailer were lies. I asked Benjamin how much they scrapped the trailer for which he stated $250.00. I asked Benjamin if a trailer like that was worth way more than $250.00 and if he had thought the trailer had been stolen which he advised that he did think it was possible stolen and that it was why scrapped it.

I asked Benjamin what he thought should happen, which he advised that he could get trailer back and that it had not been crushed. I asked Benjamin if I called the scrap yard today, they would tell me that the trailer was there which he advised that they would.
I advised Benjamin that I would be contacting the scrap yard about the trailer and submitting the case to the Prosecutors Office for felony charges.

Contact was made with Clayton Auto Parts and More who advised the trailer was there and they would put a hold on it until they were told what to do with it. GPD dispatch contacted the Clay Township Police Department who sent an officer to the scrap yard who was able to confirm the stolen trailer was there.

A bill of sale from Clayton Auto Parts and More was later emailed to me which showed Brooke selling the trailer to them and her signing the bill of sale. The bill of sale will be attached with this report.

Photos were taken of the suspect vehicle. Please see photo log for further.

Brooke and Benjamin were released from the scene.

The owner of the trailer, Travis Cresap, was later contacted and advised his trailer had been
recovered and where to pick it up.

This case will be submitted for felony charges.

Benjamin advised the metal was outside of his garage, but was leaning against the garage. Upon checking his cameras, Benjamin noticed a red Chevrolet SUV, parked in the alley behind his residence and took the metal from his property. Benjamin stated the metal was away from the alley and was leaning against his garage, approximately 20 feet from the alley. Benjamin showed me the video from his residence, which showed, a white male in a yellow sweatshirt exiting the described vehicle and placing the metal in a trailer then leaving. Benjamin was advised to send the video footage to my email to be attached to this report. Benjamin completed a statement form and a victim rights form and returned them to me.

Benjamin called to speak with me shortly after leaving the residence. Benjamin stated he showed the video to his wife, who was able to identify the subject in the video as Kaleb Bowman.

Upon my arrival, Benjamin advised he was informed by his wife that the stolen metal was taken to 1 Shot Recycling, 6377 Hahn Road, Bradford Ohio. Benjamin was able to provide pictures of the Chevrolet as well as Kaleb at 1 Shot Recycling with the metal. Benjamin was advised to email those pictures as well to be attached to this report.

I spoke with Kaleb at this time. Kaleb stated he was looking for scrap metal and noticed the metal at Benjamin’s residence. Kaleb advised the metal was next to other trash so he assumed the metal was free to be picked up. Kaleb completed a statement form at this time.

Kaleb was issued a citation for theft and was advised of his court date.
